YOU CAN'T KICK A DOG FOREVER
The story behind the song
Some songs aren’t written simply because you have something to say. They’re written because you’ve stayed silent for too long.
I know what it’s like to be labelled. To have people make up their minds about you before they’ve even bothered to hear your side of the story. And I know how difficult it can be to shake off a label once it’s been attached to you.
What has always troubled me is the way people are treated differently depending on who they are and who they know. Some are given opportunities, protection and another position to fall back on, while others are left fighting to prove themselves. We hear plenty about justice and equal opportunity, but the reality often tells a very different story.
You Can’t Kick a Dog Forever grew out of those experiences and the way I’ve come to see the world around me.
The title is deliberately confrontational. You cannot keep humiliating people, shutting them out or pushing them down and then act surprised when they finally stand up for themselves.
This is not a call for violence, nor is it about revenge. It’s a warning about what happens when people are pushed too far and their voices are no longer heard.
This song comes from my own struggle. But what happened to me could happen to someone else tomorrow.
